33 legislators send a letter to Secretary of Labor Marty Walsh.
Federal legislators recently sent a letter to Secretary of Labor Marty Walsh, asking his department to impose swift penalties on Hyundai for their use of child labor. News outlets reported in July 2022 that Hyundai was employing children as young as 12 at their manufacturing facilities in Alabama, prompting an investigation into the matter by the Department of Labor.
Though the department’s investigation confirmed the violations of U.S. child labor laws, the company continues to employ children on U.S. soil, and no penalties have been issued to dissuade their behavior.
“It is abhorrent this activity continues even after a DOL investigation,” the legislators wrote. “We urge DOL to take immediate action to rid Hyundai’s supply chain of child labor and hold those responsible to the fullest extent of the law. We look forward to working with you on these issues.”
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For the labor secretary as he considers the child labor situation at the Hyundai facilities.
- For federal legislators as they seek to protect children from various types of exploitation.
